Ses Salines
Considered as the very heart of the Mediterranean, this is an area founded by the Phoenicians and declared a Nature Reserve, it has a wide variety of scenery of high ecological importance, and is a nesting area for many species of migratory birds. This place is an excellent example of the interaction between marine and coastal ecosystems. The place has a species of grass found only in the Mediterranean basin, they are of incomparable ecological importance as these meadows form natural reefs that protect the coast and facilitate the generation of beaches and sand dunes.
The value of the Ses Salines Nature Reserve has been preserved as a result of using traditional methods in extracting salt. The grasses in here contribute to the purification of the water so that they can be considered to be the very heart of the Mediterranean Sea.
The Las Salinas Salt Flats , located on the southern tip of the island is where the most photogenic views in Ibiza are found. Salt lakes evaporate in the summer, leaving a crust of pure white salt exposed to the sun, sparkling and eye catching especially during sunsets.
Other beautiful features here include the wetlands at Ses Feixes , a relic of Moorish agricultural methods, and the natural area of de Soto .
